Different types of Dental insurance plans?

There are two types of dental insurance namely, indemnity plans and managed care plans. Indemnity insurance is often favored by patients who want more choice about where to seek dental care. In indemnity dental coverage you can select that dental professional you want t see. There is lot of paperwork involved in this plan, you have to pay for dental care yourself and then submit claims forms to your dental insurance provider. Your provider can reimburse you for part or all of your dental care, depending on your agreement. In some situations you have to pay only for deductible. Your insurance provider will pay for up to 100 % of usual costs associated with dental care.

Many people like managed care plans because they have very low costs. You have to select your insurance provider out of list of providers, details will be provided by the dental insurance company. You don't have to pay your dental fees up front. The insurance provider can pay you some fees and the dentist can offer you some special discounts as part of your insurance coverage. You have some famous managed care plans.
PPO Insurance plans:
In this type of insurance you can select your dentist from within the network. In within the network many dentists offer discounts to clients who are part of the same insurance company. You can also visit any dentist out-of-the-network also but you have to spend a lot more. Many dentists agree to be a part of PPO network and are very keen to work with patients who are also part of this plan.
DHMO Insurance plans

Even in this dental plan you can visit those dentists who are within-the- network. Dentists offer discounts to clients because they are also part of the dentist's insurance company and the company will offer dentists prepayment. In this plan, you cannot visit any dentist out-of-network. If you meet any dentist out-of-network, you will not get any dental coverage.
In this type of plan, clients have the option to choose only from a limited number of dentists. In this type of plan, dentists are only paid fixed amount per patient. So dentists only offer basic services and not complex procedures because they are paid only fixed amount. So dentists are not motivated to provide treatment because they will not be paid even if they provide complex procedures.
POS Insurance plans:

In this type of plan you can visit a dentist within-the network or out-of-network. When you sign the POS plan, you can select the type of network you prefer, but you can also change the mind when you make an appointment. Most of the time patients prefer visiting out-of-network and pay more for using this service.
