House prices 'to remain static', landlord insurance customers told

Landlord insurance policyholders have been told that house prices will remain largely unchanged in 2011.

Jon Brown, partnership manager at iammoving.com, said that this year would see a "fairly static" values market, as a result of ongoing stifled demand in the property sector.

He explained that part of the problem was that people have been forced to let their properties and will be reluctant to put them back up for sale until there is true demand in the market.

"What that is doing is keeping prices fairly static. We would expect to see that carried out as a trend through the rest of the year," Mr Brown suggested.

He added: "In terms of banks and lenders being able to provide better help for people who want to buy, I can't see that happening this year."

Earlier this week, data from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors suggested that the housing market remained "flat" during March.
